Buddy & Harper
Buddy and Harper photographed by Atlanta horse photographer.
These two were so fun to photograph. Buddy was absolutely perfect, it was like he was born to be a model. He stood quietly while I took his photos. I bet he would have stood for his “naked” photos by himself, however we still used my photo halter for safety reasons. Believe it or not, the photos of Buddy and Harper together are not composites. They each stood there quietly and professionally to be photographed together so we could get genuine interaction between them.
When photographing dogs and horses together, I always photograph them separately first. This lets me know how each behave and gives me an idea of what to expect when we place them together. Sometimes horses and dogs don’t get along, and that’s fine. I always photograph the horse and dog in similar angles so that I can easily make a composite if they can’t be photographed together. However, I do love photographing them together. There are interactions and expressions that are hard to duplicate in a composite photo. For example, the photo of Buddy sniffing Harper’s head. This caused Harper to make the cutest little squint as she anticipated what Buddy would do next. Their owner, Daron, loved this interaction and it’s one of her favorite photos.
I always encourage clients to bring their dog if they would like. I know it can sometimes be stressful to prep both animals, but it is completely worth it in the end. If you do choose to bring your dog to your fine art session, make sure to have a second set of hands specifically for your dog. This ensures that your dog has a handler while we’re taking photos of just your horse making the photoshoot less stressful for you.
