Photographing multiple horses and dogs together sounds like a dream—and it is—but it takes some behind-the-scenes planning to pull it off safely and successfully. For Casey’s session in Ocala, Florida, we got creative to make that dream image come to life.

Casey owns a stunning group of four show jumping horses—each one athletic, full of personality, and deeply loved. We photographed them individually at her private farm in Ocala, giving each horse the time and space they needed to relax and shine. Once we had their portraits, we added her four dogs to the mix—again, photographed one by one for everyone’s safety and comfort.

Then the magic happened in Photoshop.

Using each carefully lit and composed image, I created a custom composite portrait of all eight animals together—a polished and cohesive “family photo” that’s nearly impossible to achieve in real time. Not only is this method stress-free for the animals, but it also allows for more control over lighting, expression, and positioning.
