THIS is how you make senior photos memorable!
The number one thing I hear from my seniors is “I want something different!”. Everyone wants a unique and amazing senior portrait session. You can achieve that by hiring a professional photographer who specializes in high school seniors for your senior portrait session. However, if you need convincing to hire a professional photographer instead of your friend who happens to own a camera, I have come up with five reasons for you!
1. Posing is hard!
Have you ever been in front of a camera and said “Okay, what do you want me to do??”. When you hire a professional photographer, they know what is, and is not flattering. I will tell you what to do with your hands, how to shift your weight, and what angle to stand so that the best YOU is captured on camera. Posing can be difficult! I always notice if a person looks uncomfortable in a photograph. I have spent years developing an eye for posing so I know when my model looks uncomfortable… BEFORE I even take the photo! When we go back through your senior portraits, you will be shocked at the variety of posing, and how comfortable you look. Most of my seniors end up saying “I didn’t know modeling could be this easy!”.
2. Lighting can make… or break a photo.
We all have a cellphone photo of us where the sun is directly overhead and it looks like we have a mustache because of the shadow under our nose. You know what I’m talking about! Don’t worry, that will never happen to my seniors! Lighting plays a huge part in a beautiful photograph. It can compliment our best features, or it can highlight our worst features. I strive to make sure, regardless of the weather, that the lighting in my senior portraits are flattering for my girls (and boys!).
3. Art for your home.
Having something to look back on is a crucial step that, unfortunately, a lot of people miss while doing their senior portraits. So many people, myself included, will put off printing photos until they are forgotten about. I make sure that never happens with my clients. We sit down together for an ordering appointment and decide what heirlooms work best for their family. Senior albums are really popular and customizable to show off the seniors personality, and every family wants a piece of wall art. As a professional, I know what will look best, where to print it from, and how to quality check to be sure you have only the best in your home. I do all of the hard work, and you get to enjoy the finished heirloom!
4. How on Earth do you choose a location or outfits?
My seniors always stress about two main things: outfits and locations. I help my seniors with both! Location goes along with lighting, some locations have better lighting than others. I help my seniors come up with a general idea, then I find a location that fits where the lighting looks best. I always try to find a place meaningful to my seniors, this makes it important to the seniors, and makes it different from others. As for outfits, I have an entire style guide to help with that! I even allow my seniors to send me photos of potential outfits and we choose the best ones together.
5. Lastly… how to stand out and be UNIQUE!
The thing all of my seniors want, to be unique! I spend time with my seniors to develop a relationship with them. Once I get to know a senior, I can find out what is important to them and what their hobbies are. Then we can start brainstorming on how to make their photos unique to them. I have been photographing high school seniors for years, this part is the most fun to me!
These are just a few reasons why hiring a professional photographer who specializes in high school seniors is crucial in creating timeless senior portraits. Of course, I cannot share all of my secrets! I hope that you found this helpful.
