A Western Equine Photoshoot at Sunset in Alabama

I had the pleasure of working with Hope and her two western horses, Toby and George, for a sunset photoshoot just outside of Birmingham, Alabama. As a Western Equine Photographer in Alabama, I was thrilled to capture the essence of the West against the backdrop of a beautiful Southern sunset. The decision to shoot at sunset was deliberate, as it allowed me to play with the golden hour’s warm light and create a dreamy, ethereal atmosphere that perfectly complemented the western theme. We began with candid shots, allowing the trio to interact naturally, capturing the genuine moments of affection and trust. As the sun dipped lower, we moved into the arena which had a gorgeous view of the sunset. There was a huge open field that the arena overlooked which created a bright and intense golden hour.

Back in the office, I carefully selected and edited the images, enhancing the warm tones and ensuring the details of the western attire and the horses’ majestic features shone through. The goal is always to create a collection that not only showcases the beauty of the subjects, but also creates emotion in the viewer. The final gallery is truly stunning! Not only did we have a great time on the day of the session (despite the 100 degree humid weather), but the results are completely worth it. Each photograph shows the timeless bond between Hope and her two boys who each have a special story of how they came to Hope. As a Western Equine Photographer in Alabama, this photoshoot exemplifies the seamless blend of Western tradition against the rural Alabama backdrop.
