There’s something really special about getting to photograph a horse and rider more than once—you get to watch the bond grow, the style evolve, and the story deepen with every session. That’s exactly how it’s been with Holly and her gelding, Kos.

We photographed this session in Birmingham, Alabama, where Holly and Kos looked totally in sync. This wasn’t our first session together—I’ve also photographed Holly with her former lease mare, Juliette—and every time, she brings such joy and authenticity to her time in front of the camera.

Holly’s family is deeply rooted in the local equestrian community. Her mom owns Carousel Tack, a go-to for riders throughout Birmingham, and it’s easy to see how that love for horses runs deep. Sessions like this remind me why I love what I do: not just capturing pretty pictures, but telling a story of connection, growth, and long-term passion.
