Amie, Romeo, and Jet

I absolutely love when I get to capture the bond between a horse and rider. Better yet… when I get to capture the bond between TWO horses and their rider! This quick session in North Florida was so much fun. Jet and Romeo were on their best behavior, but it always helps when there is a treat bucket involved! Equine photography is one of my favorites, and that’s no secret, I love being an equestrian photographer! There’s just something about photographing the way riders interact with their horses and documenting the beauty of equines.

I have known Amie for several years now and it’s always nice to catch up with old friends who you haven’t seen in awhile. Amie has been kicking butt in the barrel racing world. These two horses, Jet and Romeo, are two of her main mounts who she has been traveling all over the country with. I’m a fan of going nice and slow, Amie is the total opposite, these two horses can fly! I have enjoyed keeping up with not just Amie’s journey, but these two horses as well. It’s always fun to watch her videos from the weekend and see where they fell in the placing. Barrel racing is an interesting sport because although you’re trying to beat the fastest time, if you don’t, you may fall into a poor spot in the division. For example, times are categorized (correct me if I’m wrong) into 1D, 2D, 3D, 4D, etc. Each division has a time cut off. Normally the top 5-10 riders in each division get a payout, but if you’re unlucky #11 in the division, you will be faster than the divisions under you, but come home with no money. I guess that just means you have to aim to be THE fastest time of the day to come home as the 1D champion!

Thank you, Amie, for letting me come and play with you and the horses before the rain set in! I’m excited to add these three to my portfolio as an equestrian photographer.
